Phi Mu was founded on March 4, 1852 at Wesleyan Female College in Macon, Georgia. We have been an active chapter at the University of Tennessee for 99 years. Phi Mu was founded on three principles: love, honor, and truth. Chapter members strive to maintain these guiding principles to lead lives of noble womanhood.
Phi Mu has a proud tradition of service to the University of Tennessee and the local community. Our national philanthropy is Children’s Miracle Network. Locally, we are active supporters of East Tennessee Children’s Hospital. Our chapter members hold leadership roles in many organizations on campus, including the Student Government Association, Student Alumni Associates, Team VOLS, Orientation, Ignite, Orange Pride, All Campus Events, Campus Entertainment Board, Emerging Leaders, Honors Program, Timettes for the swim team, The Daily Beacon, and countless honor societies. In the past two years, we have had two chapter members be chosen in the top 5 for Miss Homecoming, one receiving the award. There are many famous Phi Mu alumnae, and we are proud to say the Sarah Stone, the winner of The Bachelor: Paris, was a Phi Mu right here at the University of Tennessee.
